Nine Orange County schools were recently named as recipients of the coveted National “Blue Ribbon School“ award. Of the twenty-seven schools named in the State of California, one-third, nine were from the OC, Of those three of the local schools in Northern Orange Co.

· Fullerton’s ~ Beechwood School

· Yorba Linda’s ~ Fairmont Elementary

Combined with hard work of the students, dedication of teachers, administrators, parents and the communities, these fine schools received the national nod for outstanding performances.

· Deerfield Elementary School, Irvine

· Mariners Christian School, Costa Mesa

· Mariners Elementary School, Newport Beach

· Tustin Memorial Academy, Santa Ana

· Victoria Elementary School, Costa Mesa

Success in the Blue Ribbonprogram in Orange County incorporated a countywide focus on the academic standards measured by nationally No Child Left Behind Act. In addition the dedication and willingness among local school administrators to undergo the detailed application and interview process for the award made helped make the recognition possible. The Blue Ribbon program originated nationally in 1982. No doubt we want the best for our children, especially when it comes to education. Yet great schools can be measured in multiple ways.
