The event is a way for Americans to show their gratitude and appreciation for those who have served and payed the ultimate price for our freedom today. The traveling wall is a half scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., with over 58,000 names of men and women that travels from place to place in hopes that many will have the viewing experience.  The public is invited to visit the Wall and honors those who gave their all and we are honored as local communities to have this event in our own backyard.

The Wall was escorted  on Tuesday March 13, to Tri-City Park (on Kramer S. of Imperial Hwy.) in Placentia. The video showcases the escort of the massive truck transporting the wall itself.  The opening ceremony took place the following day with many on hand at the park.

Other events include:

• A POW MIA Candle Light Event, Friday March 17 at 7:00 p.m. (rain or shine) and the public is welcome, this is also a family event.
• The closing ceremony is Sunday March 18th at noon. Flag presentations to all flag donors at closing.

This is a FREE event to attend 24 hours a day. FREE parking is also available.

Tuesday, February 28th is proclaimed National Pancake Day at your local IHOP

That’s right, have a FREE stack of hot and fluffy pancakes and make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network.

The photo on the right is one I took last year at the event in Placentia, (Orange Co.) CA. This one included 2 young local beauty queens, Katie (clutching her CHOCO Bear) who was a cancer patient and treated at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Also included is Katie’s big brother Kyle and the Placentia store manager who made everyone feel right at home.

So…if you’re available on Tuesday, February 28th, head on over to your local IHOP (check locations here) have a few pancakes and make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Netowork Chairities! And more good news, when you make a donation it stays in your local community.

Oh and one more thing, leave your server a nice tip (even though you’re not charged for the pancakes) they will be working hard and deserve it!

Huntington Beach ~ JULY 4TH PARADE! I’ve done this one myself (on bikes) several times, it’s right up Main Street. Then head over to the SURF CITY PIER for a day of fun, Fireworks at dusk.  Limited VIP seating $10 bucks.

While for some Memorial Day may mean a long week-end, for retailers it’s reason to promote a sale, for me it’s also a time to remember and say thanks to those who have served and are now serving along with the families they leave behind. • Fullerton ~ Loma Vista Cemetary, The U.S. Army’s 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment will be the focus of a special salute Monday, May 30, at the 73rd Annual Fullerton Memorial Day Observance.
• L.A. ~ Honor and Remembrance, Monday, May 30, 2011 10:30 am Los Angeles National Cemetery is hosting 122nd Annual Memorial Day Program honoring the memory of the Brave Men and Women Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice to Give the Gift of Freedom to our great nation.
• West Los Angeles ~ Walk for Your Warrior, Monday, May 30, 2011  10:30 a.m. ~ Fun, Prizes and More, a family-friendly 5K Walk/Run to benefit New Directions a nonprofit agency that assists homeless veterans.  Join the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce  in walking in honor of those who have served and those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces.
• Long Beach ~ Queen Mary Salutes U.S. Military Personnel The Queen Mary will offer FREE admission to all U.S. active and retired military personnel on Memorial Day. Memorial Day Monday, 10 am – 6 pm,  1126 Queen’s Hwy, Long Beach, CA 90802 Cost: Free for retired and active military with ID, regular price for all others Parking: $12.
• Palm Springs ~ Palm Springs Air Museum Memorial Day Flower Drop. This is a very special day at Palm Springs Air Museum and an event I’ve attuned myself, that’s where I took this photo. The brief Memorial service is dedicated to all of othe  fallen soldiers, who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.To honor them the flight is  the highlight of the service with a fly-by and flower drop of over 3,000 red and white carnations from a B-25 Mitchell.  Visitors are welcome to pick up a flower to take home.
• Yorba Linda ~ May 30 at 2:00 PM – Memorial Day Ceremony Please join friends and neighbors in honoring our nation’s fallen heroes at the Memorial Day Ceremony being held at the Yorba Linda Veterans Memorial on Valley View Ave north of YL Blvd.

So what ever you decide to do this Memorial Day, I’d encourage you to show your appreciation to a Vet!

Whether it’s a loan modification or a short sale itself, it’s said that 1 out of 7 homeowners who either purchased or re-financed a home since 2005 is in trouble.
