Safety for pedestrian traffic and bus safety alike. Each year I include school bus safety tips in my newsletter, I use a wonderful site, GreatSchools.net as a source for many of my articles. Since I’ve changed my publishing schedule this year I’m no longer writing a September issue so I thought I’d provide some of the information here.

Here are a few worthwhile links on the subject, Getting Your Child to School, this post includes safety tips on those walking to and from school, taking the bus and driving your kids to school.

Not sure about you, but when my kids were young early mornings were always a hassle. Here’s an article on how to How to Avoid Morning Meltdowns.

If you’re considering a move in the near future you’re most likely want to check the schools in advance. Schools for example in my community of Brea have been a huge draw for our city. The Brea-Olinda School District consistently ranks high in the state. A word of caution however, if you select a home based on a specific school keep in mind that boundaries may and do (at times) change annually, even if you’re right down the street from the school! My son Jeff was just about to start school when we purchased our very first home. It was obvious to us the elementary school was right down the street, a little over a block away. Now keep in mind this was many years ago before online information at our fingertips. We assumed (you know what they say about those who assume) that because the elementary school was on the corner only one block away, that’s where Jeff would begin his first year in kindergarten. Wrong, upon registration I found the boundary line was on the corner at the stop sign. Even though this school was by far the closest, just a short walk from the house, we were on the south side of the boundary. Only those children on the north side of the boundary actually attended this school. Jeff ended up at a school more than a mile away!

It’s also important you check and verify the school information yourself. Do not rely on the information provided by the MLS. The boundaries may have recently changed without the Realtor knowing the facts.
